About
FIAAY PROJECT
Communities experiencing mass incarceration are at greater vulnerability to HIV. In particular, African American young adults with a history of incarceration are at heightened HIV risk. Early detection among this group is critical for linkage to HIV prevention services, ensuring that people receive care in a timely manner, preventing the spread of HIV, improving survival among those affected, and ultimately, reducing racial disparities in HIV.
Despite the benefits of testing, several barriers reduce timely HIV diagnosis. There is little research that examines how these barriers impact HIV testing among this group.
This project will identify the relationships between several of these barriers.
Online surveys will be collected annually from 300 young adults over the course of three years and participants will receive up to $75 for participation.
This information will be used to help inform the develop of strategies to address HIV vulnerability for African American communities in general and formerly incarcerated African American young adults in particular.
